ST. CATHARINES — Hundreds of people came together Tuesday evening to watch a movie under the stars in Rennie Park.

Moonlight Flicks returned to Port Dalhousie for the 2017 summer season with a screening of Disney’s Moana. The popular outdoor movie series usually held in Lakeside Park was moved due to concerns regarding the condition of Lakeside Park following the flooding that occurred there earlier this summer as a result of historically high water levels in Lake Ontario.

Following the screening Tuesday night, Moonlight Flicks organizer, Patrick Gagliardi, told the audience they were hoping to move back to Lakeside Park for the Aug. 1 showing of Jumangi, presented by Your Niagara Home.

Tuesday’s screening was sponsored by Mark’s No Frills, with store employees on-site offering up snacks to those in the audience.

Event organizers encouraged people to bring out non-perishable food donations for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold District. The screenings are free to attend and moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on during the showing.

The remaining screenings for this season include Space Jam on Aug. 8 presented by the Niagara River Lions, Toy Story on Aug. 15 presented by Brock University and Fern Gully on Aug. 22 presented by St. Catharines Clean City Advisory Committee. The movies start at dusk.

Gagliardi also organizes the Moonlight Flicks series on Wednesday nights in H.H. Knoll Park in Port Colborne.
